(EVENT: May 2019) If we, as a society, business owner, human resources director, manager, or employee continue to ignore training in the process of identifying, reporting, and mitigating potential violence, we are doomed to witness repetitive tragedies. A mere one-time background check and reference verification is NOT a workplace violence program! This epidemic is growing, primarily due to a lack of training. I agree that not every mass shooting or violent encounter is predictable or preventable, but many incidents could have been stopped using the proper approach. A comprehensive strategy for identifying unusual and critical behavior is the proper approach. This comprehensive strategy involves stopping an “insider threat” from continuing using specific protocols.
